Use of Antihypertensive Medications Not Associated with Risk of Contralateral Breast Cancer among Women Diagnosed with Estrogen Receptor-Positive Invasive Breast Cancer.

چکیده
BACKGROUND Antihypertensive medications are widely used among adults in the United States, and there is some evidence that certain classes may affect the risk of adverse breast cancer outcomes, but their impact on risk of second primary contralateral breast cancer (CBC) is unclear. METHODS We used data from a population-based nested case-control study consisting of 359 women diagnosed with both a first primary breast cancer and a second primary CBC and 691 control women diagnosed with only a single breast cancer and individually matched to cases. Multivariate conditional logistic regression was used to estimate ORs and 95% confidence intervals for risks associated with ever, recency, and duration of use for various antihypertensive medications. RESULTS No class of antihypertensive, including calcium channel blockers, β-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, and diuretics, was associated with risk of second primary CBC. These results did not change materially in a sensitivity analysis restricted to women with a history of hypertension. CONCLUSION Our findings do not support associations between use of various antihypertensives and CBC risk among women with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. IMPACT The present study adds evidence to support the safety of commonly used antihypertensive medications among breast cancer survivors with respect to risk of second primary CBC.

Relation between Estrogen and Progesterone Receptor Status with p53, Ki67 and Her-2 Markers in Patients with Breast Cancer
Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, containing approximately one third of all illnesses in women. Assessment of molecular markers is valuable in predicting the outcome of disease and decision making for optimal treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between estrogen and progesterone receptors with Her-2, Ki67, P53, and clinicopathologica...
متن کاملTamoxifen therapy for primary breast cancer and risk of contralateral breast cancer.
BACKGROUND Women diagnosed with breast cancer have a twofold to sixfold greater risk of developing contralateral breast cancer than women in the general population have of developing a first breast cancer. Tamoxifen therapy reduces this risk, but it is unclear if this benefit exists for both estrogen receptor (ER)-positive and ER-negative contralateral tumors. METHODS Using data from a popula...
متن کاملCorrelations of Diabetes and the Risk Factors with the Survival of Breast Cancer Patients
Introduction: Diabetes is associated with an increased risk of cancer. Because of the metastatic nature of cancer, the survival of women with breast cancer is decreasing despite receiving various treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between diabetes and the risk factors related to the survival of breast cancer patients. M...
متن کاملGenetic polymorphisms in the estrogen receptor - α Gene codon 325(CCC}CCG) and risk of breast cancer among Iranian women: a case control study
Abstract Background: The Iranian breast cancer patients are relatively younger than their Western counterparts. Evidence suggests that alterations in estrogen signaling pathways , including estrogen receptor-α (ER- α ), occur during breast cancer development in Caucasians. Epidemiologic studies have revealed that age-incidence patterns of breast cancer in Asians differ from those in Cauca...
متن کاملBioinformatics-Based Prediction of FUT8 as a Therapeutic Target in Estrogen Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer
Abstract Introduction: Estrogen receptor-positive (ER-positive) breast cancer is a subgroup of breast tumors that is more likely to respond to hormone therapy. ER-positive and ER- negative breast cancers tend to show different patterns of metastasis because of different signaling cascade and genes that are activated by estrogen response. Genetic factors can contribute to high rates of metastas...
